At the end of this module, the learner will be able to:
This course is for learners who want to upskill and deepen their para-counselling skills, and build confidence in offering meaningful support and motivating positive change in others. Learners will practise the microskills, including empathic listening, questioning, observation, focusing, reframing, and constructive feedback, with a strong emphasis on drawing out stories and strengths. These skills enable learners to communicate with empathy and apply supportive strategies through a psychoeducational approach.
This course provides a continuation to the Practical Counselling Basic or any other basic counselling equivalent certificate (from other training organisations). It is suitable for learners who want to increase their competency and expand their para-counselling skill set in supporting others.
Facilitated Classroom Training

The course is targeted at social workers, para-counsellors, HR professionals, supervisory roles, teachers, health care workers, workers in police force, and volunteers etc.
Learners must have completed WSQ-Practical Counselling Basic from AHD or equivalent from other training providers, or have at least 1 year of para-counselling experience.

Day 1: 9am-6pm (In-Person Classroom)

Day 3: 9am-6pm (In-Person Classroom + Role Play Assessment)
Learners who meet 75% class attendance and achieve “Competent” for all assessments will be issued 2 certificates: A Statement of Attainment (SOA) awarded by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) and a Certificate of Achievement with the course title in it from the Academy of Human Development.
Learners must have completed WSQ-Practical Counselling Basic from AHD or equivalent from other training providers, or have at least 1 year of para-counselling experience.
Ms Shui Swee Fen has more than 18 years of training experience; imparting knowledge and expertise in the area of parenting, marriage, personal effectiveness, group dynamics/facilitation and counselling. Her participants include staff from hospitals, churches, private and public educational institutions, corporate organisations and government agencies/statutory boards. She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling and Psychotherapy and before that, she had completed a Social Work degree from NUS. She is a very experienced and enthusiastic trainer who knows how to balance teaching and fun in the conduct of her training.
