Course Objectives

At the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Use the Iceberg Model to know more about self and others
  • Apply Congruence Interactions for better communication and relationship with family members

Course Overview

Different perceptions, expectations and needs as well as individual’s personal problems can lead to communication breakdowns in the family which can adversely affect relationship with one another. Many who feel the stresses from work, study and family issues tend to retreat to their mobile phones and other technological devices for solace. Eventually, they have lesser interaction and become less connected with family members.

The aim of the course is to equip learners with the basic knowledge and skills deriving from the Satir Model to help their clients, friends, others and even themselves to have better interaction and connection with family members. Satir model is often used as a family therapy approach to strengthen family relationships.

In the course, learners will get to identify the Coping Stances and its effects; apply the Iceberg Model to discover self and others, and manage expectations; combat repeated negative and unhealthy patterns of feelings, thoughts and behaviours; and resolve differences. The application of congruence interactions helps to improve family interactions and strengthen family relationships.
