Course Overview

Divorce is a highly stressful transition, affecting the overall well-being of the parents and children due to the significant changes within the family. Each family member faces unique challenges as they adjust to the new circumstances brought about by the divorce.

Parenting and Co-parenting present new challenges, particularly for parents with limited support who are simultaneously managing their own emotions and their children's emotions resulting from the divorce. Divorced or divorcing parents face difficulties in managing the co-parenting relationship as they seek to reduce acrimony between themselves while providing the necessary support to their children through effective co-parenting styles.

Families often seek support for issues related to the adjustments, emotions, parenting, co-parenting, re-establishing stability, routine and predictability in the family. To maintain a sense of continuity, families need to realign relationships and redistribute role functions to buffer the stressors caused by change. When parents effectively adjust to the divorce and support their children's adjustment, it strengthens the resilience of parents, children, and the entire family.

As a Professional, supporting parents and children during the divorce and transition phase requires a comprehensive set of skills. These skills are necessary to address the emotional and adjustment needs of both individuals (parents and children) and the family. This includes managing changed roles, relationships, effective parenting, and co-parenting of the children, while also building resilience and re-establishing stability within the family.

The training will focus on developing skills to facilitate family processes that contribute to defining the children's well-being and achieving desired outcomes by empowering and supporting parents in their parenting and co-parenting efforts.
