In this workshop, participants will learn to conceptualise cases using 5Ps: presenting issues, precipitating factors, predisposing factors, perpetuating factors and protective factors.

Course Overview

Participants will be introduced to how dysfunctional coping strategies could serve as perpetuating factors.

They will also learn to appreciate moment-by-moment forming hypotheses and how the experience shaped our conceptualisation as we engaged clients.

Medium of Instruction & Trainer

Ms Ong Ai Weig was trained in Social Work from the National University of Singapore. She subsequently obtained her Graduate Diploma in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy from the Brief Therapy Institute of Sydney (Australia) as well as her M.A. in Social Sciences (Counselling) from Edith Cowan University. With a keen interest to integrate creative arts into clinical practice, she obtained her M.A. in Arts (Art Therapy) from Goldsmith University of London as well as her Graduate Diploma in Clinical Supervision from Counselling and Care centre.


Ai Weig started her career as a Social Worker in Fei Yue Community Services and Fei Yue Family Service Centre (Yew Tee) serving youths, families and couples. She also worked in children and youth homes; Institute of Mental Health and in Nursing Homes during her post graduate internships to expand her skills working with a wide range of clientele groups. She went on to lecture Social Work in Nanyang Polytechnic and served as Course Manager. She also serves as an adjunct Social Work lecturer for Singapore University of Social Sciences and Singapore Institute of Technology. 

 

Returning to the social service sector, she pioneered and led the Practice and Service Development Department for a youth agency before joining back Fei Yue Family Service Centre (Yew Tee) as a Centre Head. In her capacity as Centre Head, she manages the operational aspects of casework, groupwork and community engagement within the boundaries it serves. She also manages staff development and oversees implementation of social service initiatives. Currently she serves as Assistant Director to support division initiatives across FSCs. She also drives quality and evaluation in programmes for the Family Services and Counselling division as well as co-ordinate and curate training materials and opportunities with Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs).
